Spring 2025 Student Survey Results

One of my priorities as Ward 1 Co-chair was listening to the needs of low-income students. This past spring, Students Unite Now had over 500 individual survey conversations with students who work on Yale's campus. Here are some of our results based on the cleaned up data of 419 students.

Students on Aid Are More Likely to Work More

At Yale, undergraduates are recommended to work no more than 10 hours a week on top of a full course load. But among those who reported that they normally need to work more than that, over 82% are on financial aid — even though only about half of Yale students receive aid overall.

Our findings from a mathematical hypothesis test suggest these differences are statistically significant, a sign that students from working class families have a different Yale experience when it comes to overwork.
